I received a phone call today from my good friend Quintin Reece to let me know that in my backyard, our very own Land of Lakes choirboys of Minnesota, Inc. will be going for the Gold!

LAND OF LAKES CHOIRBOYS TO COMPETE IN 2008 WORLD CHOIR OLYMPICS

On July 9th 2008 , with the American Flag flying high, the “Viking
Choir” of Minnesota’s Land of Lakes Choirboys, wearing red, white and
blue star-studded jackets, will parade through the streets of Graz,
Austria, at the opening ceremonies of the 5th World Choir Games. The 34
member international touring choir will be representing the United
States of America, (and Minnesota, of course) and will be competing
against hundreds of choirs from around the world for gold, silver and
bronze.

The Land of Lakes Choirboys Artistic Director, Mr. Francis
Stockwell, applied to the Choral Olympic Committee in December of 2007
with an audition tape, photos, a proposed repertoire which the choir
might perform in the competition, and copies of reviews from critics
around the world stating that clearly, the Land of Lakes Choirboys
“Viking Choir” ranks as one of the worlds’ finest boychoirs. In a
response received recently, the choir was invited “with great
pleasure”, to be one of two (at the time of the response) choirs to
represent the U.S.

The group of 9 to 14 year old boys will depart the Twin Cities on
June 12th on a five week international tour that will take them to
Belgium, France and Germany, then finally to Austria for the five day
competition of children’s and youth choirs.

While at the games, the choir will be involved in encounter concerts
with other choirs and meetings and discussions with choral experts and
composers from around the globe. In addition to the beautiful opening
ceremonies, the choristers will compete in a two day qualifying round
followed by a two day competition for medals. On the final day, July
13th, the choir will hopefully be one that performs in the “Concert of
Champions”, followed by the closing ceremonies of the children’s and
youth choir competition. The adult choir competition follows for
several days.

The World Choir Games takes place every two years. The last games were held in Beijing, China.

The choir will return to Minnesota on July 15th to what promises to
be a tumultuous welcome from parents, friends and supporters, at the
Twin Cities International Airport.

These boys are the best of the best and represent our Country the way it should be represented! Keep them in your prayers and let’s keep our thoughts and prayers with them as they bring the best America has to offer to the world!
